My Journey Within!

I have had my fair share of mental health issues, decades in fact, but the major influence in overcoming some of the most crippling disorders was time spent in nature, 'Eco Therapy'.

From a very young age I was exposed to sexual abuse, child abuse, domestic violence both emotionally and physically within the home, on top of being a prime target of school bullying. Back then resources were limited for anyone who may need them and lack of support for what I was going through saw me turn to drugs and alcohol at the tender young age of 13. Stress, bullying, anxiety, depression, living in fear, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, body image, insecurity, instability, lack of self worth & self belief were my life for a very long time, along with a long 23year struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. It was a long hard battle as I tried desperately to hold on to any sense of worth, worth I only ever found in engagements with the outdoors. The clinical based services, counselling and other offerings I did try as I got older only ever provided me with temporary relief but never led to any real long term solutions or changes and I made the decision to look for holistic based alternatives and found that time in the outdoors was the major influence in my healing and journey within.

Now, 11 years drug free and 6 1/2 years sober, I have completely rebuilt my life from the bottom up, and on more than one occasion, using a variety of modalities. I spent the last 9 years running a successful Eco Certified Tour Business providing nature based tours & wellness experiences throughout Western Australia but with the Covid Pandemic reeking havoc on the world, for me it highlighted the need for more health and wellbeing opportunities and I made the decision to close the doors on that chapter and to follow a deeper calling of providing heartfelt servicing to others. I've dedicated every waking moment over the last 8 years and invested everything I had into learning, growing, upskilling and levelling up my knowledge, skills, qualifications & accreditations and now come from a place of skill and lived experience.

The deep connection to country and own personal transformation and healing is the driving force behind The Eco Therapist and my dedication and commitment to helping women begin their own Journey Within. Exposure to nature is no longer a luxury, but rather a necessity human beings need to incorporate into their lives on a regular basis. Although human beings have been urbanizing and then moving indoors since, the introduction of agriculture, social and technological changes in the past three decades have accelerated the human disconnect from the natural world. As a result, we are less connected to nature and feel less responsibility to protect this environment.

What is an Eco Therapist

If you try to look up the meaning of Eco Therapist in the dictionary your unlikely to find a clear definition so I am here to offer you my simple definition and why I decided to brand myself using this term.

Lets break it down.

The word eco-therapist is made up of two parts: eco and therapist.

The prefix ‘eco’ speaks to the relation of living things to their environments. In ordinary terms we refer to that system as ‘the natural world’ or more simply ‘nature’.

therapist is a person who is skilled in any particular type of therapy.

As mentioned before, much of my healing and recovery back to a place of good mental health and wellbeing come from spending time in nature 'Eco Therapy' therefore as a trained therapist & outdoor guide 'The Eco Therapist' seemed to describe me to a tee!

I know that all the terminology can be confusing so if you are unsure whether you need a Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Psychologist or Psychiatrist then I highly recommend checking out the article 'Types of Therapists' in Good Therapy Australia via the link found here.

I, Chelle Fisher aka The Eco Therapist, at no point make claim to be anything that I am not. I do not prescribe or diagnose. My services are holistic based, and can be used to compliment traditional therapies.
