During the Reiki Session
At your first session, you’ll meet with me, reiki practitioner. We’ll have a short introduction or chat about the process and your expectations or intentions. It is important to let me know about any symptoms you want addressed or if there are places in the body on which you’d like me to focus on. Also, let me know if you have any injuries or places that are sensitive to touch.
You’ll then be instructed to lie down fully clothed on a treatment table. A blanket is available for those who require as the energy flowing through can affect everyone differently, but the room is kept at a comfortable temperature at all times. I will begin the session by placing crystals where needed and the sound healing component will be playing in the background. For the most part there won’t be any talking during the session, but you can feel free to let me know at anytime if there’s something you need to feel more comfortable or to share what you’re experiencing.
I will then begin the healing session placing my hands lightly on or over specific areas of the head, limbs, and torso using different hand shapes, for between 2 and 5 minutes. My hands can be placed over 12 different areas of the body. Whilst I do this the transfer of energy takes place.
It is important to note that everybody experiences a Reiki Healing session differently. For some it can be a rather intense cleansing session, often with a lot of emotional release involved. You may experience sensations in the body such as heat or tingling. Some people report seeing visualizations such as colours or pictures, or having memories appear. Try to allow whatever arises to pass without attaching too much meaning to it. I know this is easier said than done, and have spent many session with a busy mind but as long as your intent is to receive the energy, the energy will do exactly as is needed. Your experiences may become deeper the more you continue with reiki.
For others you may not feel anything at all and that is perfectly ok. I still to this day have varying experiences and it is hard to trust that 'something' has happened during the session. It doesn't mean that one worked any better than the other. We have to trust that the energy simply does what it is needed to do, and that it could be days before you see any shifts, if any.
After the Reiki Session
Reiki can offer a wide range of benefits but some clients may experience a mild detox after engaging with this energy healing session, whilst others may experience heavier effects. There are some possible symptoms you may experience after a Reiki session: Increased sweating, Increased urination & bowel movements, Dizziness, Cold or flu symptoms, Headaches, Nausea, Feeling tired and lack of sleep.
It is important to understand that this is a natural part of the process of shifting blocked energies related to the initial emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical distress. The body is detoxifying and the energies in the body are readjusting. These symptoms fill usually fade within 24 to 48 hours. It’s also critical that you drink lots of water, ground yourself in nature, and get plenty of rest after the healing. A ‘Healing Reaction’ indicates that the body is detoxifying in preparation for healing. Each person responds to treatment in a different way. In general, in order to suffer a ‘Healing Crisis’, it is necessary to carry out a treatment of several sessions where the person cleanses himself thoroughly of the blockages. Emotions and discomfort can surface as confusion, anger, and other emotions that the client is releasing and healing within the core of themselves. I am a qualified therapist so equipped to handle anything that arises from the session and happy to chat about in the debrief afterwards.
Reiki cannot cause harm to the receiver or the practitioner and can complement any form of treatment to other therapies.
The flow of Reiki energy through the physical and subtle bodies encourages the gradual release of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual “toxins” that have made their way into the cellular memory and built up in the energy system over time. Toxic build-up is the result of past experiences such as injuries, illnesses, and traumatic events as well as poor health habits and pollutants in this and other lifetimes.
Symptoms are more likely to manifest if the client: has not received healing treatments previously, or suffers from a chronic condition, or a condition that has existed for more than three weeks. has experiences a chronic high level of stress, suffers from post-traumatic stress.
For the duty of care for my clients, I need to screen potential clients for contraindications before we proceed with a session.
